However, the origins of Singapore’s penal system can be traced to the arrival of the first batch of convicts in 1825. WebChangi Chapel and Museum tells the story of the prisoners of war and civilians interned in Changi prison camp during the Japanese Occupation. The museum was revamped and opened in May 2024, featuring new content and artefacts. It is managed by the National Museum of Singapore, a National Heritage Board institution.
